14,919 new businesses were registered in Togo in 2024, a decrease of 13% compared to 2023, when the figure was 15,654.
Businesses formalized by Togolese nationals represent the majority of new creations in 2024, with 12,371 structures compared to 13,032 in 2023 (-4%). On the other hand, the share of businesses led by foreigners decreased by 2%, from 2,622 in 2023 to 2,548 in 2024.
There is also a 3.5% increase in businesses created by women, which reached 4,450 compared to 4,297 in 2023. Women thus represent 30% of the new structures created during the year.
For their part, the number of businesses launched by men decreased by 7.8%, standing at 10,469 compared to 11,357 in 2023.
In recent years, the Togolese authorities have increased measures to stimulate self-employment across various sectors of the economy, while simplifying the process of formalizing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
