The Government expects small-scale mining to increase the contribution of the mining sector to 10% of gross national income in 2025, compared to the current 9.1%.
Given the growth in income from artisanal mining in the last two years, the Minister of Mines, Doto Biteko, stated that this is an objective within reach.
Revenue has grown from Sh451.6 million to over Sh1 trillion as of the end of February 2023.
Gold accounts for around 80% of this revenue, thanks in part to the local government's strategy of providing financial support to the activities of small-scale miners through local financial institutions.
