The Red Line, the second section of the urban train in Lagos, Nigeria, has officially begun its commercial services

This 27 km section, with 13 stations, is connected to the main bus terminals, including those in the neighborhoods of Oyingbo, Yaba, Oshodi, Ikeja, and Iju. An extension of 10 km is planned

“The Red Line will revolutionize the way we move in Lagos, connecting communities and stimulating economic activity. It is the beginning of a transformation of Lagos into a city with efficient and sustainable transport systems,” said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu

The Red Line will offer 37 trips and transport up to 500,000 passengers daily. It will reduce the travel time between Agbado and the city center from 2 hours to approximately 35 minutes. It complements the Blue Line, which began operations in September 2023 with a capacity of 250,000 passengers per day

These lines are being developed as part of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LMRT) project, which will integrate a total of 7 lines to connect the different districts of Lagos and its surroundings

Green Line, Yellow Line, Purple Line, Orange Line, and Brown Line are the other sections planned within the project
