Nigeria and Spain have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish political and diplomatic consultations

This partnership, signed by Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and his Spanish counterpart, José Albares, aims to institutionalize a regular dialogue mechanism. This dialogue will facilitate progress on issues of common interest and strengthen cooperation between both nations

This agreement is part of the Spain-Africa 2025-2028 strategy and is the result of a meeting between both ministers to strengthen bilateral ties. The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to "enhancing collaboration in various fields, particularly economic development, security, education, energy, and the fight against climate change," according to the official statement

Nigeria and Spain have maintained close cooperation for several years in various sectors, especially in trade. In fact, Spain is among Nigeria’s main customers, particularly for its crude oil and gas exports

In January 2023, both countries expressed their commitment to deepening their partnerships in investments and the development of Nigeria's gas resources for the global energy market
