Morocco has secured first place in the 2024 African Mathematics Olympiads, held in South Africa from August 10 to 20. The Moroccan team distinguished itself by setting a new record for points never before achieved in this continental competition.
Morocco has topped the ranking in the 2024 African Mathematics Olympiads, held at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, until Tuesday, August 20, according to a statement from the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports. After the deliberations of the organizing scientific committee, the Moroccan team accumulated a total of 201 points, a record that no country had achieved in the history of the continental Olympiads. The podium, 100% Maghreb, is completed by the Algerian team (186 points) and the Tunisian team (133 points).
Regarding the medals, Moroccan students won three gold medals and three silver medals distributed among the team members. The gold medals went to Yacine Kamouh (42/42 points) from the Casablanca-Settat region, Adam Mahdan (35/42 points) from the Souss-Massa region, and Sami Moussaoui (33/42 points) from the Oriental region, according to the same source.
Three gold medals in the female category
The silver medals were won by Sarah Al-Masnawi (31/42 points) from the Casablanca-Settat region, Sakina Brransi (30/42 points), and Lina Chaker (30/42 points), both from the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region. These three students also won an equal number of gold medals in the female category (PAMO Girls).
