In the year 2023, 463 electric vehicles were sold in Morocco, marking a spectacular growth of 133% compared to 2022. This was revealed by Adil Bennani, President of the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM), during the press conference dedicated to the 2023 annual report on the automotive market in Morocco.

The automotive sector remains an elitist industry, and electrification is happening from the higher-end segments," highlighted Adil Bennani, making luxury and premium brands offer a wide range of electric vehicles and dominate sales

Furthermore, the generalist vehicle market has gained momentum with the launch of the Dacia "Spring" model in 2023 at 200,000 dirhams, as indicated by Adil Bennani. According to him, several operators will offer more affordable models for households in 2024. Establishing mechanisms to promote electric mobility is essential for this segment to make its way into the market, recommended Mr. Bennani, adding that this includes the creation of a charging station network that meets the expectations of the growing volume of electric vehicles on the road in the coming years.

In this regard, he emphasized that sales should experience an overall growth of 5% this year, betting on the momentum driven by the authorities to stimulate demand through structuring projects, despite the "fairly uncertain" context looming on the horizon of 2024. The transition to sustainable mobility in Morocco is taking shape with the emergence of innovative electric models and a constant expansion of the charging infrastructure, paving the way for sustainable mobility.

The exemption from luxury tax and the annual special vehicle tax (TSAV) represents a significant fiscal advantage for early buyers of alternative fuel vehicles in Morocco, whether they are private individuals or professionals. Morocco stands out as a pioneer in Africa in terms of electric mobility, thanks to various incentive measures and substantial investments that attract numerous renowned global operators, contributing to the creation of a conducive ecosystem for the transition to electric vehicles.
