Agence Ecofin - Rich in its solar and wind potential, Mauritania has attracted energy industry players for large-scale green hydrogen projects. It must now establish a legal framework to regulate this promising sector

The Minister of Oil and Spokesperson for the Mauritanian Government, Mr. Nani Chrougha, stated that Mauritania has been working over the past year and the beginning of this year on developing a legal framework that would allow investors to launch green hydrogen projects in the country. According to the official, this framework should be adopted before the end of the year

The Minister made these statements during the Berlin Dialogue on Energy Transition 2024, an event hosted and supported by the German federal government. Mauritania's potential to produce large-scale green hydrogen was confirmed by the results of a feasibility study conducted by Chariot for its 10 GW Nour project, one of several projects that have been the subject of agreements with the country's government.

In this context, the establishment of a regulatory framework is essential for the activities and the various stakeholders in this new sector for the country, which hopes to benefit from it
