"Niger is an economic engine for the Sahel," declared Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Vice President of the European Commission, after his meeting with Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum.

On Wednesday, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Vice President was received by President Mohamed Bazoum for a meeting with the latter and several ministers in Niamey.

This visit will be an opportunity to strengthen the partnership between the EU and Niger and address various bilateral, regional and global issues.

These will include, among others, Niger's socio-economic development and humanitarian issues, stability in the Sahel region and the fight against terrorism and organized crime, the two PSDC missions EUCAP Sahel Niger and EUMPM Niger, migration, the green transition , as well as other world affairs and Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

High Representative Borrell will then inaugurate, together with President Bazoum and Nigerien ministers, the Gouro Banda solar power plant, co-financed by the European Union. The inauguration and a press conference will be available on EbS. In the evening, Josep Borrell will visit EUCAP Sahel Niger and will preside over a medal ceremony.

On Thursday, High Representative Borrell will head to Agadez, where he will meet with Governor Sadou Soloké and the President of the Regional Council, Mohamed Anako. In the afternoon, you will visit the EUCAP Sahel Niger local office in Agadez and the EU-funded DESERT social housing project. The high representative will also meet with Sultan Oumarou Ibrahim Oumarou of Agadez and visit the old city mosque.
