According to Rose Pola Pricemou, the Guinean Minister of Posts, Telecommunications, and Digital Economy, Guinea will soon be connected to a second submarine cable
Today, only one submarine cable connects Guinea to the rest of the world in terms of connectivity. Through the WARDIP project, we will obtain a second submarine cable, thus strengthening our digital sovereignty. It is unacceptable that in 2024, the populations of the most remote villages cannot access basic social services via digital technology. It is not necessary to be literate to benefit from public service," said the minister during the review for authorization of the ratification of the financing agreements of the Regional Digital Integration Program for West Africa (WARDIP).
This new infrastructure will be funded by the World Bank as part of WARDIP. Its implementation will ensure additional connectivity to increase the capacity of the infrastructure, but also to extend the coverage of these services to millions of additional people and reduce costs.
The project should also accelerate the government's ambitions for digital transformation
According to the Annual Report 2022 of the Regulatory Authority for Posts and Telecommunications (ARPT), Guinea has 6.98 million mobile internet subscribers for a penetration rate of 52%.
