Ethiopia exported 46,000 tonnes of coffee in June 2024, achieving 108% of its monthly target
The annual performance was bolstered by a record level of coffee shipped to the international market during the last month of the Ethiopian fiscal year 2023/24, which ended on Sunday,” explained ECTA, specifying that the sector achieved a record volume generating $218 million
These exports brought the annual volume of coffee shipped to the global market to 298,500 tonnes, resulting in revenues of $1.43 billion for the fiscal year 2023/2024
Compared to the previous year, the volume increased by 20% and the value by 7.5%, as indicated by the authority
Ethiopia is widely regarded as the birthplace of coffee. The coffee plant (Coffea) is native to the forested lands of southwestern Ethiopia, especially in regions like Kaffa, where coffee is said to have been discovered.
Today, Ethiopia is one of the world's largest producers of arabica coffee, a coffee species renowned for the superior quality of its beans and complex aromatic profile
