Healthcare Opportunities in Africa
To support its growing population, governments are increasingly investing in hospital construction projects across Africa. While many of these projects are small, there are also numerous large-scale projects to build major healthcare facilities throughout the African continent. In the following article, we will take a look at some of the most significant projects currently being planned or built.
New Capital Hospital City – Cairo, Egypt
The massive $800 million New Capital Hospital City is part of Egypt’s New Administrative Capital master plan. It will have more than 4,200 beds, a kidney, ophthalmia, diabetes, and liver institute, as well as a new University of Medical Sciences.

African Medical Centre of Excellence – Abuja, Nigeria

Staoueli CHU Hospital – Algiers, Algeria
Staoueli CHU Hospital is a hospital project currently under construction in Algiers, Algeria. With a cost of $500 million, the Ministry of Health, Population, and Hospital Reform of Algeria aims to develop a 12-story hospital with 700 beds, as well as a medical research center. The China State Construction Engineering Corporation became the main contractor of the project in 2020.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
Mohammed VI International University Hospital Expansion – Rabat, Morocco
The Mohammed VI International University Hospital is an existing hospital in Rabat, the capital of Morocco. At a cost of $450 million, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Morocco is developing a hospital campus with four six-story buildings and a 25-story tower.
It will have more than 550 beds and 20 operating rooms, as well as 15 conference rooms, 72 teaching classrooms, and 2,017 rooms for practical (educational) work.
