Senegal: Since November 7, Dakar has emerged as a vibrant showcase of African art.

The Senegalese capital hosts the Contemporary African Art Biennale, known as Dak'Art, an essential event for art enthusiasts and professionals. This prestigious event, which brings together established artists and promising young talents, reinforces the biennale's role as a platform for expression and international recognition.

A springboard for Senegalese artists.

For many local artists, Dak'Art is much more than just an exhibition. It is a unique opportunity to project themselves onto the international stage. Alioune Diagne, a young Senegalese painter, speaks about the impact of this biennale.

In 2022, I was selected. I had quite a few opportunities. It was there that I really launched myself onto the international scene," he explains enthusiastically.

Alioune is not alone in his dream of a bright artistic future. Semedo, another rising figure in Senegalese painting, captivates the audience with his unique style: inverted portraits that provoke and fascinate. However, despite the growing success of his works, the self-taught artist remains clear-headed about the sacrifices required.

Right now, I am feeding the tree. I believe that one day, this tree will feed me. For now, I am making many sacrifices, but I am convinced that in the end, it will be worth it," he confides, full of hope.

A biennale with global reach.

Founded in 1992, the Dak'Art Biennale is a biennial event that places Dakar at the heart of contemporary African art. It attracts artists, curators, critics, and collectors from around the world. More than just a festival, it is a celebration of African creativity, positioning Dakar as the global capital of contemporary African art.

The Biennale continues to unveil new talents, foster exchanges, and strengthen the status of African art on the international stage. An artistic effervescence that, for several weeks, makes Dakar and its visitors come alive.
