According to the Minister of Planning and Development, Fitsum Assefa, the country also expects double-digit growth during the current fiscal year, as it has recently begun to implement a comprehensive macroeconomic reform.
She revealed that the agriculture and manufacturing sectors have significantly contributed to the overall national growth, as the first phase of the local economic reform paid great attention to these sectors. The agricultural sector grew by 6.9%, and the cereals sector by 7.8%.
The focus on productive sectors, especially agriculture, since the first local economic reform has significantly contributed to this growth, she noted, adding that after a shift from rain-fed subsistence agriculture, several million quintals of crops were produced thanks to irrigation during last year's dry seasons
The industrial sector, for its part, experienced a growth of 9.2%, with a rate of 10.2% for large and medium-sized manufacturing industries. The services sector also grew by 7.7% during the past fiscal year.
