The International Development Association (IDA) will grant $92.2 million to Chad to support the implementation of the Digital Transformation Project.
Lasting five years, the project aims to provide high-speed access to more than 4.5 million people in rural areas.
The initiative should also support the creation of certain public digital platforms and their adoption by more than 2 million people. Additionally, approximately 40,000 people will receive direct digital training.
This project is taking place in a context where Chad has a significant lag in terms of penetration rates and access to the Internet. In fact, the country has a penetration rate of 22.5%, compared to 70.4% for mobile phone usage in a population of 18.56 million, according to DataReportal
On the other hand, the 2024 ICT Development Index from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) ranks Chad 47th out of 47 African countries, with a score of 21.3 out of 100
