Ecofin Agency - According to stakeholders' forecasts, the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) gas project, shared between Senegal and Mauritania, is expected to be operational by the end of this year
Despite a delay of nearly three years from the initial schedule, the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) gas project, involving Senegal and Mauritania in particular, has achieved significant progress towards its operational readiness in recent months
Kosmos Energy, a partner of operator BP and PetroSen, Senegal's state-owned oil company in the project, published its activity report for the first quarter of 2023 on Tuesday, May 7th. It highlights drilling operations as well as the construction of the hub terminal and the floating gas liquefaction unit
In this regard, the company highlights the successful drilling of four development wells that should ensure a considerably higher liquefied natural gas (LNG) production than initially expected. This progress is further reinforced by the successful connection of the FLNG to the hub terminal, which is now operational
Subsea work is progressing as planned, with the installation of the transportation pipeline already completed and connection works nearing completion," stated Kosmos Energy regarding subsea operations
The mooring and "commissioning of the floating production, storage, and offloading unit (FPSO)" remains pending, described as a "critical" step towards extracting the first volumes of gas from the GTA and LNG production scheduled between the third and fourth quarters of the year. This outlook should support the medium-term economic growth of Senegal and Mauritania.
