The operational phase of the 'Orange' line of the Antananarivo cable car will be launched before next June, announced Gérard Andriamanohisoa, Malagasy Secretary of State in charge of New Cities and Housing.
It was planned to install the cables in 6 weeks, and we did it in 2 weeks. Trials on this first section will begin in May, with the start of operation of the first cabins between Anosy and Soarano," said Gérard Andriamanohisoa.
The Orange Line allows to cover the 2.60 km between Anosy and Ambanidia in 10 minutes. The Red Line, the second section of the project, is also under development and will allow to cover the 9.21 km from Anosy to Ambatobe in 30 minutes. It will be equipped with 4 stations and 19 towers.
The implementation of the cable car network should help alleviate the pressure on roads, which are used daily by at least 2 million people commuting between the center and the outskirts of Antananarivo
