Morocco aims to double the number of tourist arrivals to 26 million in 2030.

Rabat – Morocco's Minister of Tourism, Fatim Zahra Ammor, today announced the launch of the 2023-2026 roadmap to develop the country's tourism sector.

With a budget of 6 billion dirhams ($578.3 million), the roadmap aims to attract 17.5 million tourists, generate 120 billion dirhams ($11.5 billion) in revenue and create 200,000 new jobs. work between now and 2026.

Ammor made these statements during the signing ceremony of the framework agreement for the 2023-2026 roadmap, which was chaired by the head of the Government, Aziz Akhannouch.

The agreement was signed by Ammor, the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mehdi Bensaid, the president of the FRMF, Fouzi Lekjaa, and the president of the CNT, Hamid Bentahar.

Also present at the signing ceremony were the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah Alaoui; the Director General of the National Tourism Office, Adel El Fakir, as well as the President and Director General of the Moroccan Agency for the Development of Tourism (SMIT), Imad Barrakad.

During the event, Ammor highlighted that the roadmap will help Morocco to consolidate itself as one of the main tourist destinations in the world.

Sharing the news on her Linkedin account, the minister highlighted that Morocco is experiencing “unprecedented momentum,” while underlining that the roadmap offers an excellent opportunity to “transform the tourism sector, both in terms of quantity and quality."

He noted that the tourism strategy addresses all the “essential growth levers”, such as improving the customer experience, closer collaboration with tour operators, encouraging investment in accommodation, as well as training and retaining the best talents.

For his part, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, explained that the air transport sector plays an important role in the implementation of this roadmap.

He highlighted the importance of adapting Moroccan airports to welcome tourists in the best conditions.

Ammor recalled that Morocco attracted almost 11 million tourists in 2022, that is, a recovery rate of 84% of tourist arrivals in 2019, exceeding the world average of 63%.

“The sector has recovered 116% of tourism earnings in foreign currency compared to 2019,” Ammor said, noting that the notable results achieved during the recovery period fueled the ambitious goal of doubling the number of arrivals to 26 million by 2030.
